In order to further guarantee people’s livelihood and enable disadvantaged groups to share the fruits of economic and social development, Shanghai increased social assistance subsidies such as subsistence allowance as from July 1, 2024 under the consent of Shanghai Municipal Government. The relevant subsidies adjusted this time include the subsistence allowance, regular subsidy for the assisted group by civil affairs system, subsidy for extremely poor people, subsidy for minors under 16 and those above 16 but still in campus (excluding master and doctoral education) of subsistence allowance families. Some identification standards have also been adjusted, including income standard for families barely above subsistence allowance level, monetary property standard for families living on subsistence allowance, and monetary property standard for families barely above subsistence allowance level. Among those, the subsistence allowance has been increased by RMB85 from RMB1,510/person/month to RMB1,595/person/month.
